Students on the Cognitive Science (MBB) Track must take a set of Mind/Brain/Behavior program-specific courses, in addition to their other [required courses](/requirements-chart "Requirements Chart").

## Advanced Courses

MBB concentrators must fulfill their Advanced Courses requirement by taking **three** approved courses in other MBB departments (MBB Advanced Courses) and **one** Departmental Advanced Course in Psychology (**two** if they are replacing PSY 1 with an AP or IB score).

### MBB Advanced Courses

MBB concentrators must take **three** advanced courses from a Psychology-department approved list of [courses offered by other participating MBB departments](/mbb-advanced-courses "Mind/Brain/Behavior Advanced Courses"). These departments include:

- Computer Science
- History and Science
- Human Evolutionary Biology
- Linguistics
- Neuroscience
- Philosophy

To count towards the MBB advanced courses requirement, a course from any of these departments must be on the Psychology department's [approved list](/mbb-advanced-courses "Mind/Brain/Behavior Advanced Courses"). If you find another course from one of these concentrations that you feel should count towards the MBB Advanced Course requirement based on its significant psychology content, please submit a [petition](https://undergrad.psychology.fas.harvard.edu/non-departmental-advanced-courses#petitionedcourses) to the Undergraduate Office.

MBB Track Students may choose to petition **one** non-departmental course towards their Advanced Course requirement. This non-departmental course cannot replace the required departmental Advanced Course(s) and cannot be a Psychology course. [Please see this page for more information on petitioning a non-departmental Advanced Course!](https://undergrad.psychology.fas.harvard.edu/non-departmental-advanced-courses#petitionedcourses)

### Psychology Advanced Course

Students in the MBB Track are required to take **at least one** departmental Advanced Course in Psychology. [See this page for more information about what counts as a departmental Advanced Course!](https://undergrad.psychology.fas.harvard.edu/departmental-advanced-courses)

Students cannot replace their required three MBB Advanced Courses with additional Psychology Advanced Courses.

## MBB Junior Seminar

MBB students must take one [MBB Junior Seminar](https://mbb.harvard.edu/seminars). This will generally be an MBB 980-level course. In addition to the MBB 980 courses, some departmental courses are also offered as MBB Junior Seminars by the MBB seminar program. If you wish to take one of these (non-MBB 980-level) courses, you must email <psychology@wjh.harvard.edu> to request approval.

## Thesis and Research Courses

MBB students must write a [thesis](https://undergrad.psychology.fas.harvard.edu/book/honors-thesis) and must take the associated required thesis courses, including one [lab course](/lab-courses "Lab Courses") for credit and the two senior thesis tutorials (PSY 991A and 991B). A thesis application must be submitted and approved in the sixth semester (generally junior spring).
